I want to go dog-hunting too.

the guys I teach gun safety with have been giving me a few pointers, here they are.

1# go west of the missouri. in SD or ND

2# talk to the locals... they go to a new area every other year.. and get hunting spots by eating at the local establishments talking to the county sheriff and so on for a day.

3# bring a few diff. guns and lots of ammo. "the best way to learn a gun is to shoot it" be it your deer rifle or a 223 AR or both..

thanks for the help on that I cant wait to go out.

i shoot my AR 15 all the time but only at cans I wanna see the flippin and spinnin dogs do when you hit them.

we killed the crappies yesterday at bald eagle. only problem is theyu are all way small we kept 5 out of at least 35 fish. I will tell you this the north end is a good place to start. we were at the north end of the lake on the west side of it by the west oaks marina. we were killing the small crappies. 6" to 9"

I have read lots of threads about this in the past month. and after that huge illegal dumd that happened and that pre season fishing protest that WAS going to happen. I'm starting to get sick of the "its our right" to do it based on a 1855 tready.

I will say this and thats it.

I HAVE THE RIGHT to cut off my own junk with a rusty knife but I wont because it is just plain STUPID.

It would be great if people would stop hiding behind their "RIGHTS" to excuse there STUPID behavior.

I understand a person has to eat. But its a little hard to justify pulling a net out of the water with 60 or 70 fish in it As I need to eat.

I dont care if its tradition, its STUPID, wake up before the lake fails.

White Bear Lake hot summer day.

A friend of mine and I were bass fishing along Manitou island. I was using a yellow spinnerbait and i flung it out I was thinking it was in the weeds. Sure enough i was hung up in the weeds ( so I thought).

I was trying everything to get off this weed I was doing the old pull your rod like a pool stick, yanking it, shaking it you name it. I was gaining a little ground on the "weed" and all of a sudden I see what looks to me like a whales tail do a slow flop in the water.

Then I see it as I'm looking down my line after the tail flop to see if thats my "weed". And guess what it's my "weed", to this day I still think I threw my lure right in his mouth.

At this point I'm thinking you got to be kidding me and my heart is pounding because this is the monster I have ALWAYS wanted. so I'm slowly reeling in the largest muskie I have ever seen in my life And I have to land it with a bass rod. I think it was easily gonna be the record. I have seen the record muskie mount at Blue Ribbon Bait to compare it to.

I don't think the fish knew it was even hooked. Because it came right to the boat like it wanted to be caught. I'm looking at this thing and I'm in a daze its massive.

I say to my buddy grab it. Because I'm up on the front deck of the boat and he was in the middle watching this. And we had NO NET. he says to me " I'm not touching that thing"...lol can you believe that.

So as soon as i step down off the front deck into the middle of the boat it rocks and it spooks the fish and he's running under the boat towards my back motor. So I asked my buddy to lift . nope he could not get it up.

I'm thinking wow man come on lift that thing. I go back with the biggest fish I have ever seen on my line and go lift the motor.

Now the fish is going towards my troller. so like a dummy I ask my buddy to lift that for me. and of course he could not figure out how to lock it up. so I go do that.

In the mean time the fish starts to go on a long run like 75 to 80 yards out. by this time we caught the attention of a couple kids in a boat, they came in and was like what do you have on.

You wont believe this but they floated right into my line ( I was so pissed) and I lifted my line up high as I could but they still were grabbing at it to lift it up over them. FISH STILL ON YES.

I start to get some line in and was thinking no way is he gonna come in like this again and then he raises up out of the water and shakes his head and poof spits the hook right out. MY HEART STOPPED FOR A FEW SECONDS.

I now ALWAYS have a net

that buddy of mine has not been back in my boat.
and I still have not got over losing that fish.

THIS IS A TRUE STORY I SWEAR ON MY LIFE.
