Slight change of plans. Found a place on Poplar Lake, so I will probably stay on that body of water. But if it's not productive, we'll hit 2 Island. Thanks

Taking my gal up to Grand Marais, middle of October, for some hiking and grouse hunting. I've never tried, but am thinking about bringing my 16ft boat/25HP. To do some fishing on inland lakes, of which there are many.
Can anyone recommend 1 or 2 lakes, that will increase my chances for success?
How about a local bait shop, that will give a current fishing report, or lake recommendation?

Starting to get excited, for the 2018 ice fishing season on Lake Mille Lacs. I have had a sleeper shack, out of Fishermans Wharf, for 25+ years. I'm an "ice time" only, angler on the big pond. I have lake property an hour north of Mille Lacs, that I spend my summers on.

Does anyone actually "ice fish" for smallmouth bass? I would love to try that. Does a guy, fish the rock piles? Or, am I just way off on this?

People suck. My buddies and I have that sort thing happen on lakes all over MN. We call it "gettin' Mille Lacs'd", because it was happening out there for 35plus years.

Myself and many many many other anglers ARE chipping out their blocking at the end of the ice angling season.[I don't like having to keep extra blocking in the house] Myself, as well as many others I'm sure, stop and pick up misc. trash I/we see on the ice during the season. This is just an example of "people suck". It only takes a "few" to make the "many" look bad. These are the same people who toss their trash all over the woods when out hunting or riding. Where I also pick up their junk and throw it away. If all sportsman had common sense, and took pride in the land and water they used for their activities. We would all be one big happy gang of buddies. But that's not reality, reality is - people suck.
Maybe resorts should require blocking be attached to the sides of runners with some rope or cable? That would cut down on this anyway. I don't know......you can't fix stupid.

I do - Red Eye Resort on Big Point- Dale & Linda Getske(not sure on the last name spelling). Spent my youth(8yrs-18yrs old) fishing out of there with my Grandparents and later my dad. Great people, fun little resort, will remember those days forever. Two years ago I wanted to go "old school" again and moved my fish house to Fisherman's Wharf. Lovin' it, great place, and now I'm back to fishing the area of the lake I grew up fishing. Now I take MY 10yr old son up with me. The fishing isn't what it was when I was his age, but I go for the fun and the memories, not a stringer full of fish.

Ok thanks, good to know. I've never fished in Isle Bay anyway so I would be clueless anyhow. I think I'm gonna try closer to shore, rather than the flats, and work the transition areas. This time of year does get a little frustrating.

My wife wants me to take her up to the shack this weekend, WOW. Although fishing has slowed quite a bit, I would like to take her out in the portable and find a few biters late morning thru mid day. I did a little scouting out at Midget and 9 mile last friday, in the 30'-34' range and caught scadds of tiny perch. My sleeper shack is in about 25' and we get a few nice perch around sundown, with 1 or 2 big walters at night. Would I have better luck finding keeper size perch in the rocks closer to shore (say around around Big Point) in that 15'-20' range? I heard reports of a good sunfish bite in Isle Bay. But I've never fished in there, and have no clue where to set up. We have 2 kids in hockey and I'm lucky to get up there at all these days. Just looking for some fresh idea's to keep her interested in ice fishing.

Looking to replace old oak fish house runners, with new oak fish house runners. Steel seems to be way to $$. Anyone know a guy who mills them?
