So Genz caught one 30 years ago, so did I. Saying you can target smallies in winter is hogwash. How many winter pics of smallies have you seen? Largemouth of course are a different story. They need to catch attention to make money with these articles.

i guess i can't speak to fishing them through the ice, but i spend a lot of time in the winter fishing them on the 'sippi. It's not uncommon to catch as many fish as your sucker budget will allow.

Let's be honest, they have to eat, so they are out there somewhere feeding. Your best bet would be to take a look at winter tactics for winter smallmouth in Southern reservoirs. i suspect on ML you would need to target deep rocks, and use baits that simulate crayfish, as these are the most prevalent food sources of ML smallmouth.

Might want to reference the ref book:
http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/fishing/fishing_regs.pdf#view=fit&pagemode=bookmarks

Pg. 50

MISSISSIPPI RIVER (Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties) smallmouth bass: all from 12-20" must be immediately released from the confluence of the Crow River upstream to the St. Cloud Dam, including tributaries to the posted boundaries. Possession limit is three, with one over 20".

Only as a reason for The Slot.

The Slots are what have hosed the lake.

^this

The protection of trophy class fish of multiple different species decimated the forage base.

No forage=poor year over year recruitment=eye fry and fingerlings becoming the primary forage base=collapse.

I always recommend burning the dock down. that way you can just reel in the affected plank when it all falls in, and it creates bonus structure for fish!

PM's will sit in the OUTBOX until the receiver opens them.

Can't speak to the "Connection reset" portion of your issue
