I'm also interested in conversation on this topic. I head up Wed, the 25th-29. I'm guessing I'll be flirting with the forks bog water.

Any updates or predictions on the busting of the little fork? I suspect this cold weather up there will delay this?

Hornster,

Your timing will be pretty good....although Mother Nature can throw us some curves. The walleyes I have caught this season so far have ranged from 3 feet to about 38 feet. This afternoon the fish seemed to make a decided move shallow. This pattern will hold for quite some time I would guess. They are just coming in now, so your trip next week should be perfect. You will have the opportunity for huge pike and big walleyes in the same general locations. Work stickbaits slow or fish live bait extra slow in really shallow areas where fish may spawn or where they will likely stage. Some nice walleyes today fell to Smithwicks worked real slow. No pike over about 10 today, but they are starting to feed more aggressively!

Smallies may likely still be deep when you arrive. Crappies are available super shallow if weather is just right. Maybe....just maybe you can find some slabs in the upper 40 degree water temps. This is a pre-spawn feeding move that you can take advantage of if you time it right. Next week might be right.

Good Luck!

Deron

Great information. How deep do those smithwicks run? Are the walleyes in shallow'ish softbottom bays, or rocky areas?

So how did the sturgeon anglers do up there this weekend? What depths worked best? Bait? How much weight to stay on bottom? Any advice is appreciated and I'm looking forward to reports and pictures.

I'm super pumped for this event and I'd highly encourage anyone with Kids (or even without kids) to show up. It's going to be a great time. The organizers have spent hundreds of hour in preparation and all their hard work is going towards an outstanding event revolving around getting kids involved in the outdoors.

Mike, did you see any sturgeon being caught near Birchdale and/or Vidas?

Funny about the superhear troops. Sounds like you had a great time.

Awesome reports fellas. It looks like there was more action in the river in front of the resorts? Is this correct? Was 4-mile bay unfishable, or were there just no fish there? I'm heading up in 2 days. Thanks

With this cooler weather, does on expect the panfish (crappie & gill) bite will continue in the same patterns as it has been the past 3-5 weeks. Or have fish shifted or migrated? I'm thinking about giving it a shot this weekend, but am hoping to prevent the "should have been here a month ago" saga.

BTW Jason, awesome series of panfish posts over the past few months. I appreciate the sharing of good info. Top Notch.
