Thinnest I found was maybe 4". Otherwise a good 5+ inches

And Thunder, I started my season last weekend up north but didn't turn up much to report.

Well since I recently took a job in Cokato I figured I better get out and find a lake to head to after work during the week. So I headed out Saturday night and Sunday morning looking for walleyes.

Saturday night went pretty good, caught 6 walleyes but 3 were just little dinks. Set up in ~12 fow. Most of the nicer fish came off tip-ups rigged with 5-6in sucker minnows.

Sunday morning started like Saturday night, just catching a couple dinks so I moved off a weedline in 8-10 fow and managed a couple pike and one nice walleye at 21".

Not a bad start for never ice fishing the lake before!

I've used slip bobbers with braid plenty of times without too much hassle. The biggest problem I've encountered wasn't the stopper knot sliding, but when using ultra light-weight lures/baits etc, the braid does not like to 'slip' through the bobber quite as easily as mono does. All in all though, yes I have used braid for slip bobbers. However, the way I look at it is this, braid is excellent in many applications like you said fancaster, typically whenever minimal line stretch and ultimate sensitivity are desired. Fishing with a bobber, well, neither of those things are necessarily needed. So I generally stick with mono.

That's awesome! Reminds me of going out fishing with my old man when I was a kid. He will cherish days like that forever! Nice work to the both of you!

Any other LSF'ers get out to the Maple Lake contest? Any prize winners or fish caught? I myself got skunked but had a great time! First year for myself, definitely a well run contest and I plan to go next year. Last thing, any one know what the largest northern caught was?

Too bad, I can weld aluminum but have no access to a welder capable of doing it. If I find anything I will be sure to let you know!
