Buffs,

I hear the night bite is ok. If you are getting into them though keep your hook sets discrete as possible as you will have a higher likelihood of getting "parked-in". Good luck!

I have done both. Purchased older truck and now leasing. With the older trucks replacing brakes, tires, joints, seals and the maintenance gets old and expensive along with the lower payment because its not new. I'm now leasing and I don't have to worry about fixing any of these things and just pay my higher payment. I also have a more reliable vehicle as well. I understand what I'm paying for and when you compare the two, currently it is more expensive but also more reliable.

Scrapedogg,

You have no idea. Last two times I have been there it was
-30 and then the next time -50 windchill. My fishing moniker is Cold-Front Shammy. I just need to turn that into some sort of skill of catching a dam fish during a severe cold front and I would welcome the name.

Anybody have any input on if we will be able to drive around a bit with a truck and get away from people??? Hard to get ahold of anyone up there today at Roger or Portavilla.

Yep temps are diving even more. We abandoned the wheeler idea (trailer space) and we are just brining a sled. Its hard to spend all this time and money and depend on your sleeper being in a good spot worth your time. These temps are killing us and we just need to be a little mobile. Is it somewhat safe to do a little off roading with a truck after these temps now??

Four of us guys are staying with Portavilla this weekend. The plan was to have a wheeler (hauling from southern MN) and sled and be mobile with portables because of the multiple heaves and cracks and to get away from the crowds. Are we nieve to haul a wheeler this distance and think we are going to travel the lake with these projected temps? Friday, Saturday and Sunday all around zero degrees. Any help would be much appreciated.

I delt with this same thing for two years. You have to much oil in the auger. The pro 4 lite only takes 3 Oz of oil. I thought it was 6 Oz like the oyhers. Took it to a small engines place he cleaned it out and put correct amount in and it runs beautifully.

They are both pretty similar. They don't move their houses around very much and I wouldn't expect to catch a lot or any fish in the houses. The houses in both places are extremely outdated and not very nice. On the positive side the food and service is great at both places and people are very friendly.

About the same for us. Caught a handful of the 14 inch eyes and a few scattered big perch. The word on the lake was that it was slow. I'm sure someone got into the bigger girls somewhere but overall it was slow.

Bobber,
My 7 year old daughter and I are coming up to stay with you guys in a delux house Sunday noon through Monday noon. She can't wait and has been telling everyone that she is sleeping on a lake this weekend. We look forward to meeting you guys and hopefully catching some fish. Is it possible that we know which house and which flat we are staying on??? I would like to fish that particular area/flat Sunday am with her and do a little searching before we get in the house. Thanks for taking the time to post on the forum and again we look forward to our stay.

That-A-Boy Buffs! Thanks for the report. Sounds like things are firming up and I hope we will have some better ice than last year. Nice fish, not hot and heavy but some good eaters there. Can't wait to hang later in 2015 and have some Todd Micks!!!!
