Jeremy and I took a drive west yesterday to a prairie lake I had never had the boat out on before. We got out on the water and the wind decided to kick it up another notch. That's fine I wanted to see how the new craft handled the waves. We put in a few hours trolling to cover water, explore the lake and try to locate some fish. It wasn't a bad plan because we were able to land some eyes and one nice pike. The wind finally laid down and we did some casting which worked also until I zapped my trolling motor batteries. We loaded up at dusk having boated 14 eyes and one pike. Great day on the water even though the weather was a bit nasty to start. Our best baits trolling were #5 bent lip rapalas , regular & jointed in bright colors from 1.7-2.2 in 4-6 fow. Jig and plastic imitating shiners were best casting shallow on wind blown shores and points.

Recycled CL 5 makes great base, but can be a little dusty. In general depending on where you live natural CL5 (glacial gravel) Con-bit (recycled CL 5 concrete & asphalt) will be pretty close in price. Limestone, Granite, Trap CL 5 will be more expensive because they have to drill/blast/crush the stone to produce it.

Thanks to everyone who has posted their reports. I appreciate the information since I wasn't able to be up for the opener this year.
