I made it out this afternoon on the SW side of the lake. I was in about 5 - 6 feet of water and had one miss. There is 15" of ice where I was but there were folks driving in the center of the lake. I was waiting for them to go through.

If I get out there next weekend I will go out a little deeper.

Current ice report is between 5" and 10" depending where you are on the lake and how deep the water is. Be safe! We had between 1" - 3" of new snow yesterday depending on where you are and how much the wind blew it around.

There is a DNR boat launch on the NW side of the lake and it will be packed as opener is crazy with people first thing in the morning Sat and Sun.

There is also access to the lake by the red barn along the west side of the lake which is where a lot of folks go out that want to fish the north end. This is privately owned property but he seems to allow people to use it to access the lake during ice season.

There will also be quite a few people fishing the south end off of Grindstone lake road.

Where ever you decide to park and walk out from, be safe and please be courteous. The road that leads to the access is very narrow (single car width at points) so you need to take it slow.

I'll be out there on Sat for a couple of hours anyway and then again the following weekend more than likely at some point.

Have fun and good luck.

Another thing to look at would be the air filter (pretty sure it has one). If you haven't swapped it out I would recommend that. I would also do as you were thinking and crack the gas cap and see if that helps.

Those generators are pretty rock solid.

Reinhard, I need to fish this lake with you again. From the south shore it looks like the lake has finally locked up but it doesn't look like anyone has been out at all. I would imagine the ice is still pretty thin all over the lake. The sub zero temps this weekend and through this week should help out a lot.

I would love to learn where to find the lakers and how to fish for them.

They dredged it late last summer but it's still shallow. Also once you get out of the creek it gets shallow fast. This was as of a month ago.

A local contractor is the one who did the work (he now lives on the lake as well). It is against the law to dredge the lake itself. There is no one with authority to give him a permit to do it.

Honestly their best chance to make needing to do this would be to buy some of the property on the north end and build a new access. I doubt I will see this ever happen unless that sandbar fills in completely.

They dredged the creek last Friday (9/30). Took it down 4' so it should be good for a couple of years hopefully. They could not dredge the sandbar out from the mouth of the creek so we still have to watch out for that but it shouldn't be an issue getting the boats to the lake now.

Sorry I can't help but if I were you I would call Tall Tales Bait in Pine City. They should know what's happening there. Good guys I have dealt with a couple of times.

Does no one want to share or does no one on this forum fish this lake?
