Congrats!
I think the US Coast Guard site has a good list of items to carry for safety. Many have mentioned some great items that I know I've used, a couple others are:
Tow Rope
Anchor with plenty of rope
Flares
throwable
knife / hose clamps
2-3 gallon bucket - has many uses
for tools I've always used a small soft side lunch box full of the gear above folks mentioned
extra sunglasses/sunscreen/hats

I'm sure you'll find a way to fill all your compartments up.

I started this post 8 years ago! Well I'm sure I've missed posting some of my boats along the way but great to see this thread still running. I now have my dream rig:

Ranger 621 with Yamahas - but my pictures now are of much more important stuff

Yep we've been seeing alot of the same results the past few weeks. I'm not sure I've seen MTT results on Winnie like that in a long time. The gas stations had to love all the MTT anglers. I believe I seen you guys running taped quite a few times Sat/Sun.

I actually stayed in Duluth this past weekend and fished Superior to catch some salmon and lake trout which made their way into the smoker Sunday.

What pitch are you running and what year is the hull/outboard? I run a 15 pitch Mercury Vengeance and it works well. My 11' came with a 4 blade trophy series 17x14.25 which was too much prop. It has great top end and handling but 15/16 pitch is what you are looking for. Chuchster also probably has a good idea trying a 5 blade.

In the 18' class ProV is pretty hard to beat for a walk-thru.. (quality wise). This coming from a Diehard Ranger guy. I would really look hard at Yarcraft 186TFX too.

Currently running an 18' tiller and it fishes better than any boat I've ever had......BUT

Running on Winnie and Superior can be less than desirable with a 90hp and - no windshield.

If I end up selling my tiller I'll go back to a 619/620 as I believe they have the best ride/layout/storage. As far as fuel economy my last 225 burned the same amout of fuel as the 90 if you run the same speed (30's) which is tough to do with a 225-250.

I was out on CutFoot and it was wicked windy just out there I couldn't imagine being out on Winnie Saturday. Winds were out of NW at 25+ if not more so the south end of the lake would have rolling.

Congrats to both of you....way to stay consistant! I took the family over to Saturday's weigh in and boy that was a mistake....made me miss competing even more.

I went to check out Tammarack Sunday as I could see the boats from Bowen's and you are correct I don't think it was as good as other similar spots I fished Saturday. Folks boated fish but not as fast as I would have guessed with the number of boats stacked up out there.

I was suprised to not see more overs especially Sunday with the wind blowing a bit more in the morning.

I was up there for the past 8 days and the bite was very good early/late in the day. Wind also is always a factor on the lake. Worms seemed to work best for me.

As for the cranks it never hurts to try..... I'll be up this weekend also so if I get time on Monday I'll post a report. I'm hoping I can make an evening slip bobber bite work someplace depending on wind.
