I was in the Moose Lake area last weekend. Saw fewer birds than last year, even though we hunted more days. Lots of leaves still up on the trees. I'll hopefully be trying again before deer season opens, but it didn't seem like bird numbers were up significantly per the DNR report.

Don't believe what the DNR say about drumming reports. Hunted hard for 4 days had 9 flushes got 3 between 2 people.

What part of the state were you hunting?

Take a look at the RGMA's. There's one just north of Hinckley. Like others have said, heading further north would increase your odds.

I see that tax forfeited land is typically open to hunting. Ive never hunted public land for deer before. Looking for some input on this. Good/Bad experiences on tax forfeited land vs DNR owned WMA's and Forests?
TIA

- CalTopo is a good online source for maps
- Plan to paddle across big water early in the day
- We bring a Sven Saw to cut wood and a small hatchet to split, this makes a large woodpile quickly
- Leeches are the easiest live bait to bring
- REI FlexLite chair is the best piece of gear I've bought for BWCA camping. I've heard the eBay copies work well too for less $$

Is anyone else running this motor? 1985 Johnson 40 HP VRO (The VRO on mine was disconnected by a previous owner.) I'm interested in getting the carbs tuned up on it.

Thanks!

How deep would you set up for pike this time of year?
