I also stay clear of the channel that goes into Cree Bay.

I have been out of Jones Bay many times, and I always hug the north point. That is where you will most likely find the road anyway. Stay away from the middle where the boat channel goes, is what I have been told.

As they say ice is never "safe". But I would be comfortable driving any set up out there now. Plus -25 again tonight. My main concern now would be avoiding any pressure ridges that may/or have formed.

I drove out the canoe access just south of Mousseau bay on the west side. I didn't come across any ridges or slush on my way out to the middle of the lake. I wouldn't pull my ice castle out this access because of the lip you have to go over getting onto the lake. I fished in 26 feet but only got four tiny eyes from 10 to 12 inches. It looked like a pretty good group of houses down in the south part of the lake by slug island. Driving was super easy without a road on Sunday but we have had about 7 inches of snow since then, might be getting tricky.

I drove out Sunday, my ice scoop handle was about 3-4 inches underwater when the scoop was at the bottom of the ice. Guessing about 18 inches, mid lake.

I got out on Middle Cullen last weekend. Friday I measured just shy of 9" of ice. I was actually quite surprised, at this point I figured it to be more. Last night I measure 11", so we did gain 2" over three very cold days. Still not quite there for me to drive my truck out. Getting close. The fishing was very slow.

Thanks for reporting your explorations. I think we are all getting pretty antsy, but you are correct, it's not worth getting in bad spot. I am thinking 12/26 will be my first opportunity this year to hit the ice.

Yeah, I don't know what they'll do. Round is wide open as well. Just a few brave souls on 371 Bay of N Long so far.

I took Thursday afternoon off to head up. Hadn't gone for many years then went up last year for Saturday night. We had so much fun we decided to go for longer this year.
