electronics screen mystery

On a few local lakes in east central minnesota, when darkness is settling in, my vexilar screen begins show light green marks. These marks generally fill the bottom 10 feet of the represented water column. What's the deal? Could this be bait fish? It doesn't seem likely. Anyone have any idea what begins to clutter the screen at dark? Can't see squat when this happens.

You said you've used plastics for crappies. What plastics did you try? I have heard the impulse plastics by northland are the ticket. Sure wish you would have said what lake you were fishing. Wouldn't have been Turtle would it?
