Don't venture out on the ice!! It's really soft and squishy and shouldn't be hanging around much longer. My roommate and I live by the french and we tested some ice yesterday from the french to the lester, and out a little bit..nasty stuff. Be careful out there, good luck to the shore casters!

Guys, If you're thinking of a dream vacation, my dad and I went on a great one last year! I ended up getting hired by the outfitter in the off season as one of their guides this year. Below is the website for Copper River Salmon Charters, my outfitter. If you need more info, contact Alan. If you decide to come up and make a reservation, ask to fish with Blake and I'll make sure it's just as memorable for you as it was for me :) . We fish/float the Gulkana and the Klutina rivers out of poly-hypolon rafts for both kings and reds. The rivers are tributaries to the Copper. Plus, an hour and a half away is Valdez, where you can go salmon shark and halibut fishing with my buddy Brandon out of the Bold Eagle on Prince William Sound. The shark were around 200-300 lbs average, and the halibut in the pic went about 90lbs. He's with Pacific Mountain Guides, one heck of a big game outfit. Attached are some of the pics from last year's trip. Average king is about 35 pounds or so :) If you have any questions please PM me. This trip was awesome

Lots of ice in the harbor still! Not very thick, but it fills 1/2 the harbor still, including the launch. But, we did portage my buddy's 12ft boat yesterday and saturday off some big ice heaves on the shore. I wouldn't recommend it, but we did nail a steelie both days Man it felt good to be on open water watching board lines and feeling steel on the other end of a 9ft rod!

Portaged my buddy's 12 ft boat w/a 4hp motor out up the shore a ways on saturday and sunday, landed one nice steelhead both days :) Man it was nice trolling again, seeing the offshore gettting ripped backwards, and the flatline getting slammed...made me want to squeel like a little kid again out there. You forget how much more rewarding a fish out of a small boat on the big lake is Would post pics but they were on a disposable. 24" and 28" both bucks.

Oh I'll make sure to get that online as soon as I can. Just need to find my camera cord and the internet away from work :) You'll see some hold-out on that one for sure. Good luck out there everyone!

Okay BN, maybe it was the photographer that made the fish look bigger. Let's give credit where it's due, c'mon! Must be a hell of a cameraman!! You can even see the similarities in how we hold our fish in our avatar pics

Mark, feel free to call/pm me if you're thinking of coming up. I'd be happy to show ya around if you have a pair of waders/hip boots and the runs get going here in about a month or less or so. The loopers and steelies on the N Shore are a blast. Keep me posted, I'll be dawning the waders hopefully this weekend somewhere :)

My name is Blake. I'm 23 years old, been married to fishing my whole life now. Been hittin the north shore since I was a kid, as well as the st louis, lk superior, and muskies anywhere since. I'm quitting the sales world already after finishing UMD last may, and going to Alaska to guide for King Salmon in the copper river valley from May thru first part of August. Not sure about where I'm going when I get done, but love to chat about anything fishing related any time. If you have any questions for me feel free to ask I ove this website and the info it provides, plus along with a great staff and members, have had the pleasures of fishing with a few of you and have enjoyed it immensly. Good luck if anyone gets out fishing before I do, but you can bet I'll be in the waders this weekend :)

Hey BN..no prob on the land job. Your enormous holes made it possible! Hopefully that sheet ice that sneaks in throughout the fight leaves sooner than later, but then again, if the whole ice sheet leaves we'll be hittin loopers in waders again :):):) Great to fish with you guys again, albeit short as usual :( Hopefully I can run to LOW with you guys this spring, but I foresee many silver fish meeting us in the near future this spring
