Not my family, but yes they definitely have a few good meals from the day.

I was never farther than 6 miles from the lift bridge.

The fishing continues to be great on Superior! I had a family join me today for some steady action. The bite was mainly surface, stick baits, but there were a few fish had up to 50' down. No real colors outperformed any other. I think every bait made it back to the boat with a fish, with the exception of a flasher/ fly I threw out just to see. Even a pink mepps spinner boated a dandy coho.

Fun day!!

Hope I am not too late. Just a word of caution for a newby, there is plenty of lower unit eating trees out there, especially near Spirit Lake. Up river from Walleye Alley, I would stay clear of for now. Unless you know that stretch of river, the rocks are plentiful!

As for the fishing, keep moving. A good percentage of the fish are migrating back to the lake. You will find pods of fish. Once you find an area that produces, work it thoroughly and then move on to similar areas near by. 8-12' has been best for me. Shallower will be better soon as the shiners get going.

Fish are moving toward the surface now as this weather has got the temps on the rise. To answer a few questions, the coho are being caught right now in the top 15 feet of water, not in huge numbers, but they are showing up. Their numbers really vary from year to year. There have been some nice Kings being caught as well. The fish you see on your locator right now are really sporatic. We noticed the other day there were pockets of water where the warmer water reached down about 15'. So if you see steady marks showing up at that depth, that's why. We had a few baits at that depth and they had some action. If you have the benefit of multiple people on board, it never hurts to try some experimental lines at different depths, but most fish we boated were on surface lines. I expect this to be the trend for several weeks to come. As for the walleyes, I don't target them much out there, there is a decent bite for them, but it may be a bit early yet. A lot if them are still in the river. Usually June is when the walleyes get started.

The river is producing! I have been out a few times now and had a blast! There has been no real pattern for me, other than a jig and minnow or jig and plastics. I have caught fish from 5' to 15', up river above walleye alley, to below Spirit Lake. No real giants, but plenty of low to mid 20" fish.

Get out there and experiment! Lots of people trolling out there. I get plenty of that on the big lake, so I have been using a jig. If you're not hooking up, move! There are fish close by and throughout right now.

Enjoy the St. Louis!

This warm spell we are having should fire things up out there on the surface. Look for changes in water color, clarity, and temperature. Keep a watch for birds, & slicks. The slicks, areas where there is a long streak of calm water amongst the ripples. These often are temp breaks that collect debris, insects, bait, birds, and fish. Any change in water Conditions can be a hot spot for fish activity. Early season can be a blast. Pay attention out there and you can learn fast.

We caught fish from 30' down to 140' down. Does that help? Most were deep.

It has been a very frustrating year for me. Between the weather and boat problems, logging some water time just hasn't happened. Some friends and myself were finally able to float the boat for a few consecutive mornings. The laker bite was good both trips, with 8 fish hitting the deck on Tuesday and a 3 man limit within 3 hours Wed. Sure felt great to be on the water.
