Last weekend I was going off road in my little Chevy S-10. Didn't get stuck once. With a full-size truck, you should be good to go. Go around the drifts or try and find old tracks from another vehicle and you'll be fine.

Just finished up fishing Red Friday afternoon and Saturday. We came home with our limits but fishing was a little tough, as we really had to work for the fish we caught. Stayed out of a sleeper house through Portavilla, and we didn't have a single bit out of the sleeper. We moved away from the crowds in our portables and were able to get on decent action. Most fish were caught actively jigging with just a couple on deadsticks. Biggest was a 20" eye. We were about 3 miles out.

And watching Happy Gilmore in the background. You're missing some great parts of the movie by being distracted with your fish

I too would be curious if anyone is having any decent luck. I am heading up to Red next week to stay in a sleeper, and most of the reports that I am reading are somewhat discouraging. Usually I book a trip with Arnesen's on LOTW each year, but wanted to try something different this year. Questioning that choice already and I'm not even fishing yet!

I'll always be cheering for the Vikings to beat the Pack, but don't expect us to make the playoffs even if we by some miracle win the last 2 games. I read an article that said we have a 2 percent chance to make the postseason! Oh well, better luck next year....

From most of the reports that I have been reading, Upper Red lake has gotten off to a slow start this year, with many folks coming home empty handed. Sure, there are a few here and there having success, but it sounds like it is tough fishing overall.

Lake of the Woods on the other hand has gotten off to a good start. I've heard reports of people having 20-30 fish days and have friends that have had good luck along the south shore. Apparently there was a better shiner run up the Rainy river this year, keeping many of the fish close to the river/south shore. Hope this helps!

I have a sleeper house booked on Upper Red this year for the first time. The last 4 years in a row we have went to Lake of the Woods. Apparently it was the wrong year to make a switch! Oh well, maybe Upper Red will turn on sometime in the next couple of weeks!

Thanks! The ice wasn't exactly ideal yet, but it sure is nice to have the whole lake to yourself. That will change throughout the week as more and more people feel safe walking out...
