Fished musky with Al Maas several times. Great guide, we caught a musky on both trips. Also fished with Phil Bauerly from Outright Angling. Great guy and seems to always put you on fish what ever the conditions are. He probably knows the lake as well or better as anyone. Great multi species guide!

Fished the Sand Point area over to Cedar point area. Drove 4 wheeler. No problem getting around. There was also a couple sleds and several pickups driving around. Fishing was tough, ended up keeping 5. Lots of lookers but really seemed to be in a negative mood. Caught all fish on a small tungsten jig with just a strip of minnow belly. Anything bigger and they wouldn't touch it.

With the warm weather the last couple days the snow is settling/melting and started to see trucks getting around in the sand point area. Fished the narrows, sand point and cedar areas. Ice varied from 22" to 30". One day did good with 8 jumbo perch 12" to 13" the other three days it was a struggle to find any keepers but did manage 12 eaters yesterday but no real jumbos. Did the best in about 8-9 fow. Minnows out produced wax worms 2 to 1.

Was out today around sand point and the narrows. Travel is pretty much buy sled and wheelers with tracks. There is a couple plowed trails to ice houses out of Ericksons landing and out of the Shingobee on the lake access.

Was fishing the sand point area today. Used my sled, getting around with a truck will be pretty tough until we get some warm weather to settle the snow down. There are a couple trails plowed to a couple ice house still out there but other than that it is layed in pretty heavy. Also tried a couple spots around Minnesota island, had about 6" of snow with a inch of ice and another 3 to 4 inches of water/slush before hitting good ice. Perch where pretty slow caught around 25 fish with only 4 keepers.

I drove by the landing at city park about 3PM today and they where just pulling a pickup out that had dropped a front tire thru the ice about 20' off the landing. That's not a good sign for ice condition.

Ice thickness?

Anyone else noticing a change in ice thickness. 1-1/2 weeks ago I had 20" of good ice but yesterday it was only 17". Even drilling it seemed like the ice was softer as I got to the bottom of the holes. Fished the same spot so it wasn't like I moved to a different area.

Snow is pretty much melted down. Smooth sailing most areas except where there has been vehicle traffic. Those areas are extremely rough due to wheel tracks and pushed up frozen slush.

Was out on Saturday in the Walker Bay area up to Sand Point. Driving a Toyota pickup and we had no Problem getting around, some snow covered with some small drifts. Ice was 20" every where we drilled. Fishing was slow, caught 1 small pike and a bunch of dink perch. Only 2 perch over 8". Fished in mostly 15' - 18'.

We put in at city park on Saturday, dock was still in at that time. Tried sand point area, seems like the perch have moved off the area. It was calm enough that I could see quite a few larger walleyes laying on the open sand flats but they were tight lipped. Tried jig and minnows but they would scatter when the jig got close. Believe it or not but I did pick up some walleyes in 89' of water. Marked a lot of fish off of a deep hump so tried a large jig and minnow just to see what they were. Didn't take long and the first fish was on. When I got them up they were spitting out a lot of small perch. Anyway this was our last boat trip of the year, now waiting for first ice.
