Its just a bowl, only gets to around 6 fow. So trying to find a deeper hole isnt really worth it. I only fish it early ice because its only 6 fow.

We were about 3/4 - 1 mile off pine island on Adrians road in 21 fow (at the top of the ice) and golden shiners. We have always had better luck using silver or golden shiners rather than those dang emerald shiners they have up there. We buy them down where I'm located (Anoka county) or we stop in squaw lake. And it was around 2pm but we had some huge marks on the vexilar coming through all day. Have always heard of people using hot dogs for bait for the big pike as well but i have yet to try it.

Myself and some buddies were up there two weeks ago and my buddy had a giant half way up the hole and broke the line, through my arm down the hole to try and grab him but could just barley touch him cause it was 35 inches of ice. Still fun though! We were guessing it went well over 12 lbs

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Anyone else have any other lakes to try? Thinking about maybe giving Franklin a whirl. Tried to pm a few guys from around the area but my pm's won't send...

So kind of an unfortunate circumstance but my brother in laws sister passed away last Saturday and am making the drive up this Saturday for the visitation on Sunday. Gonna be a 5 hour drive up to Crookston. Just curious if anyone knows of a spot in the Detroit lakes area that's not to far out of the way I could make a quick midday stop for an hour or two and catch some decent panfish. Would have to be a lake I could drive the truck out since the gf will be with. I drive a newer 2500 diesel so don't wanna deal with any questionable ice. Any tips, spots or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Always a go to on lake of the woods for big pike is put a flag out with the line set about a foot under the ice. The big pike seem to cruise right under the ice during the day for what ever reason. Maybe looking for dead fish or minnows floating up to the ice. So my guess is definitely a big pike.
