I was just discussing this mess with my family. We have fished ML opener for decades. But without live bait we were ready to cancel the whole thing. A pontoon full of people/kids can fish bobbers with leeches and actually enjoy the evening.

Cove was about as busy as it has been the past several openers. There were about a dozen boats working the bay at any given point of the day. Granted several of those were targeting smallmouth, there were still plenty of walleye fishermen.

My family was able to find 5 beautiful keepers by speed trolling shallow gravel with floating raps.

The slot sucks, but its still a great lake to fish!

Always good pike traffic on the West side of the bay along the break. Drops fast from 4 ft sand to 7-8 ft mud with cabbage along most of that side. Hang your sucker just a couple feet under the ice and get ready to run!

Great info! Seems identical to what I recently read in Gary Clancy's "Hunting the Whitetail Rut"

Fished 1/9-1/11 out of Alpine Rentals, using JR's landing. Had 8 guys in two houses, 13 FOW. Had to move around and work our tails off to scratch out fish but caught enough to stuff ourselves silly on Sat night and take 2 home each. My buddy even found a fat 12 inch Red Lake Crappie and a nice 17 inch Whitefish!

Fish never settled into a pattern. We caught them on just about every other lure we tried, but we did exclusively catch our fish on Emerald Shiners which we were ecstatic to find at Taber's bait in Bemidji.

Cleaned our fish at JR's. Even with the slower bite it was incredible to see the numbers of fish that come out of that lake in one day, at just one access, and that's just the guys who decided to clean fish there!

Jerome from Alpine was great to work with and houses were very comfortable and well-equiped. Can't blame him for a tough bite!

We packed up early on Sunday morning and decided to hunt for some slabs. We hit a lake that had been on our list for a while and we were rewarded with limits for all in less than 2 hours. Just awesome fishing with several fish going over 13" on the board.

Expect to save 5-10% on electronics,
15-25% on name brand goods (tackle/decoys/clothes/footwear),
40% on most Cabela's label products.

Offer doesn't state that firearms or boats are excluded, so I would expect a 5% discount.

Keep in mind that if any items are alredy on sale that the employee discount is NOT in addition to that.
