Please stay off the ROOSTS all that does is mess up the rest of the season!

Wish the DNR would go back to the way it was "NO WATER HUNTING"

Problem with Aug hunting is all the roost jumpers that will push 20-50 birds and shoot 1 or 2 as they jump it!

So what happens to the guys who hunt places like Thief Lake or mostly hunt lakes where there's basically zero farm country to hunt? In the Bemidji area, hunting geese is tough if you can't hunt a lake or a roost...

Thanks, man!

Yes, busiest summer I've ever had. Between work, kids, and guiding non-stop it's been crazy. Excited for this week to end so I can swing my head toward bears and fall... ;)

Well it's official, the spinner bite is where it's at if you're a walleye angler. We've been working deep flats near mid-lake humps, even sliding up close to the top of the structure when the wind is blowing. 19-26' has been the best range with 2 oz. bottom bouncers and spinners tipped with crawlers.

Toward evening or on overcast and windy days, trolling crankbaits over the top of cabbage weeds or rocks has been working well.

Panfish and bass are still enjoying the hot, humid weather. Deep weeds for the crappies and bluegills has been deadly, and some very nice fish have been hitting.

We can't believe how fast the summer has gone by... Bear baiting starts in 2.5 weeks! There's still time to get in that last minute summer fishing trip though, so give us a visit! www.northcountryguides.com

Fishing in the Bemidji area has taken a bit of a hit, and anglers have to work a little harder for their walleyes than they did a week or two ago. The jig bite is a thing of the past, and people rigging crawlers or leeches on the breaklines are starting to out-produce the guys fishing with jigs in shallow. Bottom bouncers and spinners with a crawler is also working very well on outside weed edges and off the breaks. The crankbait bite remains good over the sand and cabbage, as well as around mid-lake rocks and rubble. Salmo Hornets in 6-11' of water going 2.4 mph has been working well for us.

Bass are hot right now, with smallmouth on the ledges waiting to ambush their next meal, and largemouth in the deep vegetation soaking in the 77 degree water temps.

Panfish anglers should all rejoice, as July is the month of the plate-sized bluegill and the mid-summer slab crappie. Look for deep cabbage, and work it over with safety pin spinners or a bobber and wax worm. Mid-lake structure with cabbage is the best this time of year.

Musky anglers are reporting a hot bite right now, with people seeing or catching fish on most every trip. Many of our walleye clients have lost baits or even fish due to muskies being overly aggressive. I'd venture to guess that now is the time for the musky hunters to smile.

Plenty of fish to be had before summer is over! Give us a call!

4 of us fished the Bemidji area on Saturday. We slept in and didn't get lines in the water until 9am. Launches were nice and quiet at that time of morning... ;)

We found water temps to be ranging from 54-56 degrees, and we caught nearly all of our fish in 8-14' of water, with one nice keeper coming out of 21' in a small trough between two bars. Spot-tail shiners on a 1/4oz. jig was best, drifting or moving into the wind going .4 to .7.

We ended up with our 24 keepers and had 2 big fish that posed for pics. Here's the largest of the trip...

Lots of summer openings yet, so give us a call!

Nice work, Nick!

Haven't been on the forums in ages, but figured I'd get some reports up now that I've got a spare minute...

Ice is looking good in the Bemidji area. Not a lot of snow, and a pile of cold weather has the ice sheets in GREAT shape. Most lakes in the area have anywhere from 5-11" of ice. Use caution in current areas, or lakes with spring as ice can vary...

Fishing has been tremendous. Red has been on fire as most know, but local lakes are kicking out some fish as well.

The panfishing in the area is lit up like the holidays. Crappies and 'gills are easily located in their late-fall and typical early-ice spots.

We'll all be down at the St. Paul Ice Show this weekend, so stop and say hello and chat some fishing. We also still have openings in our rentals this winter, and have private guided snowmobile trips open yet as well...
