Great job on the boat guys! I remember working on mine a few years ago. I still need to finish my front storage but it's been fun to fish out of regardless!

Looking for some feedback from those of you that are "seasoned waterfowlers". I am looking at purchasing an 11-87 for hunting ducks and geese this coming Fall. Looking for any feedback that you all have to offer. My gun budget is $600 in case you wish to mention a different gun.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Well I had the opportunity this past weekend to make it up to Burntside Lake to try for the mysterious and elusive lake trout. Lakers thru the ice have been on my "list" for a few years, so it was nice to give them a try. I headed up with fellow LSFer, Northcountry. Talk the entire was up was the game plan for how we were going to chase the lakers and with sleds in tow, it would make it easy to be mobile.

We made it to the lake around 1pm on Friday, unloaded the sleds and were off. We managed to try 3 different spots during our time out with Matt marking 2 fish and myself marking 0. The areas we tried ranged from humps, points and steep drop offs. Depths ranged from 25-70 ft.

We enjoyed some great food and MN state hockey at the Boathouse in Ely that night. We also got a game plan together for Saturday as well.

Saturday morning found us waking up to snow already falling at a steady pace. We got to the lake and again were off on our sleds. We started off trying a hump that yielded one mark in about an hour. We checked the GPS and picked a different fishy spot that consisted of an underwater point that had a nice, steep drop.

This spot ended up being the lucky spot, at least for myself. About 15 minutes I had a mark come in, chase my bait and it was "Fish on!". A nice battle ensued and a 24" lake trout was up the hole. Another 20-30 minutes later, I had nearly the same results in fish size.

About a half hour later, Matt got in on the action and we had another lake trout on the ice. I landed one more lake trout that went just over 28" and that would be the last fish at this spot and for the trip.

We made one more move, with Matt having a fish chase right away but couldn't get it to commit. As we looked down the lake we could start to see another blast of snow rolling thru. As the flakes fell bigger and more frequent, we decided we should hit the road home as we knew there had been snow there as well.

All in all, it was a fun time in catching some lakers, taking in some great scenery and exploring a new lake. The Ely area sure is a great area for scenery and fishing! Snowmobiles made it very easy for us to be mobile as well and there was just the right amount of powder to make for some fun riding. We did see a few 4wd around the lake, but I would recommend using sleds.

Below are a few pictures from the trip. Hope you enjoy!
