The rivers stayed active the past few days but last night there were some good hauls on Park Point. Reports are some groups got a few gallons while others got several gallons.

Ashland has been done for 4-5 days now. We had a really good year there and saw back to back 100 gallon pulls (first time since 6 years ago) one night. Best night was close to 5,000 pounds. The run there lasted a solid 12 days.

My cousin has been fishing a lake about an hour or so North of the cities since Friday. He reported about 1.5-1.75 inches on Friday and of today around 4 inches. Pike, walleye, and perch. Biggest pike 17# walleye 7#, perch 3/4#.

Going to give it a try Wednesday afternoon/evening.

Well my cousin won't answer his phone so guessing he's up to his eye balls in smelt!

Seems last few years have been getting better in the Duluth area for smelting.

Xplorer, you going to get in on the action? I'm going to try my hardest to get up tomorrow night. These smelt are legal game!!!

That's interesting about the helping thing, never heard of that "rule". I'll have to ask around on that. The last thing i would want is to end up in jail over smelt! I've found it strange over the years how you hear different things from different DNR.
The same seems to be true of CVI officers.

Sounds like last night was real good on park point as one group got around 1,000 lbs.

My cousin is up there now with the little 25ft purse sein. Sounds like a super nice night. Having smelted 5 nights already this season gonna stay home. If the weather holds out should last a few more days.

Walmart & Cub has them for about $5-6 a pound. Walmart they are frozen Cub not frozen.

When the bait stores in Ashland had them they were $2-3 a pound. I think my buddy sold them for ten cents a pound.

On a more serious note. Good run last night for many. Had a couple friends do real well on park point and heard good reports on Lester and other rivers up the shore. One report was not great near tot lot so guessing the run could have been a little spotty. Near the break wall it was good. One group got 500+ lbs. Still a lot of males so it may not be over yet. If you want smelt get up there in the next couple days.

So since it is illegal for non-residents to sell smelt in Wisconsin (you list being from stillwater) how do you explain the above??

Although I own 4 properties in Wisconsin my residency is Minnesota. In the next few years planning to move into our lake home. My smelting partner who lives in Wisconsin sells them. What other information do you need? I'm guessing you would love cordinances, LOL!

What we do is 100% legal. Someone asked what we do with them, answer sell them, pretty straight forward!
