I've used just about every type of ice cleat that has hit the market in the last 30 years. Always looking for the best thing out there and although the Kahtoola cleats are a little expensive, I think I'll order a pair. Have been using the Stabilicers for the last several years and they work well but are sometimes hard to Velcro in place with BIG boots. Not much to work with there. I've had them come off from time to time. Ice cleats are an important part of my gear, especially during first and late ice. I saw an old-timer slip and bang the back of his head so hard on the ice (Lake of the Woods walleyes) that it sounded like a melon, sickening sound. Poor guy was feeling tough the whole trip, probably a concussion.
Good fishing all and be safe......Greg Clusiau

Good point Nathan! I always forget about the creepers at this time of the season, and sunscreen.

MNBassin ~ I will definitely be heading back there sometime soon, as their summer summer season gets underway May 1 (I believe). Then, trips are available for practically any species you wish to fish for. The winter season only allows us to fish for the "streamers", rainbows and brookies.

Great lake travel with a snowmobile yesterday morning when all was frozen. Fished til 1 pm and left finding very soft conditions & slush problems.

Raining real good this morning so that will help in beating down the snow, just need a little freeze time.

Guessing we have til mid-April to ice fish, maybe more. Be careful & have fun!

Snowmobiles were the way to go, 18" of snow with very little slush, good traveling.

Better bring the snowmobile. Heard there were stuck pickup trucks out there yesterday. I too, thought about heading that way. We'll have two snowmobiles pulling Otters. Good luck.......

MRHRLHS ~ I'm certainly trying to get the word out as I had a great time and I'd like others to experience this. I'm simply fascinated with this opportunity and guarantee I'll be back for more fun. Mailing out a couple newspaper articles to Darwin and and gang today.

Thanks Laportian, Some very fun fishing over there. I'd loke to hit it one more time on the ice and go for the BIG trout. Also plan on making a boat trip there for lake trout and or ?? So many options.

bturk ~ LRL is off limits for non-natives but 27 other smaller lakes offer great walleye, nothern, trout, bass, & panfish opportunites.
