Read a great article a few years ago about hunting memories..being an avid grouse hunter myself, am probably guilty of this...kicked up a dozen birds once in this one patch of woods..now I hit this spot every time I'm out and have NEVER seen more then a couple. The article went on to discuss how we need to be flexible since the age of the woods, food, etc has a lot to do if there are birds around..bottom line is..just because they were there 3 years ago does not mean they will still be there..find different stuff to hunt.

You can get a ways up but have to be very careful, wouldn't go blasting up unless you know exactly where you are.

Got into an interesting discussion with a guy at the launch yesterday who claims that smallies are all catch and release from anoka north..has anyone else heard this? I checked online and looks like spec regs but farther north..nothing from elk river south

Nope, just people being jerks...lots of them around lately..thinking they see something but in reality they are making assumptions on snapshots..remember the old adage..when you assume..you make an A$$ out of you and me.

I've fished it every year for years but gonna hit the Croix instead this year for S&G's. As mentioned, be there early and you'll be fine..anytime after about 9 and it gets dicey..same thing for loading back up..gotta pick your times..fishing should be good though. Go in relaxed and don't let the mob bother you and you'll be fine.

I would also add that we as a country and society have come a LONG way since the days of using the rivers as garbage dumps, and industrial discharge areas. As a kid living along the Mississippi in the sixties and seventies I can tell you it used to be a lot dirtier until they started diverting the storm sewers.

I agree that salt probably does get washed into the streams and lakes along with every other toxic chemical and pollutant known to man..oh and lets not forget about all the drugs that get flushed down the toilet that get into the water system..my question is that we live in an area that see's snow and ice for anywhere from 2 to 6 months a year and a large commuter population..what's the answer then to getting the roads dry and relatively ice free during this time?..that crap they put on there now that turns to dust has me slightly concerned..sand? forget about it..that'll wash into the same areas and the same people will freak out. Not driving or everyone taking buses or the choochoo train? not really feasible..This article is just another puff piece by the environmentalist and some college kids to tell everyone how we are wrecking the earth and to get the legislature to pass another law that's not needed..if someone can come up with a better plan to handle the ice and snow in the northern hemisphere I'm all ears..
