Finally had a GREAT outing on Island. Opener I only bagged 2 wally for the belly, and a few perch and northern. I had two other outings where I got skunked once, and the other time justNorthern and perch.
I guess I paid my dues, as Friday night I hit one of my favorite spots for early season, and all I can say is I still have a grin on my face.

(2) 13 1/2 one was gut stuck, and I was desperate at the beginning all caught between 6-8p.m. decided to do some C&R until it got dark out and ended up nailing 6 more that were 14-16" I felt like I was doing something wrong tossing back all these beautiful sized fish, lol, most the time I struggle to hit a limit.
Sat. night went to the same spot, same wind direction so I figured it'd pay off just as well. First cast 14"
proceeded to catch my limit in the next 1 1/2 hours

(2) 13 1/2
Caught (3) others 14-16 C&R headed in @ 8 p.m.
All fish were caught on 1/8th oz. pink/orange/chartruese tri colored jig. Anchored in 5' tossed up to shore slowly jig/pulling it back to the boat. Quite a few fish were caught directly below the boat too. I thought what I felt was just the minnow twitching, but I was persistent in teasing them, more often then not ended up catching darn near half of my fish under the boat.

(21) walleye on Island Lake in about 5 hours total time, priceless

I was in the western half of the reservoir, only one other boat near me so I doubt it. Oh btw the jig was tipped to Golden Shiners, the price of gold, lol, 5.50 a doz at Charlstroms between shiners and gas prices egads fishing is going to be expensive this year

Well I went back to that same spot Wed. night, I wasn't expecting it to be as good with the wind direction not pounding into the shoreline like last fri./sat.
I brought along a buddy that wanted in on the action this time, needless to say I put on a seminar while he got skunked using the same method I was able to pull in 8 eyes, 2 of which were 10ers that went back. The stringer held
2 17"
2 13+
2 had to stretch them to hit 13

They're biting light is about all I can say, 1/8th oz. jig tops. Shiners way out produced chubs tonight, too bad freakin Charlstroms had NONE but I had a few that survived from the weekend. I had the smaller fish on the stringer and only had a couple big shiners left, I grabbed one and told my buddy, now I'm going for size, next cast 17" not much later another 17", then the wind died down and so did the bite at 8 p.m.

Good reports guys! I haven't hit Island yet this year, but you guys are inspiring me to pull the boat up there. That is except for the lower unit and prop reports on a previous post brings back some not so fond memories. I too have found some nice rock prop eaters out there. Glad to hear you guys are on the fish!

Hound the spot is drying up for bigger eyes it seems.
I fished "the spot" Sat. night and it was slow with the calm wind. I did mangage to get 2 keeper wally's
13 1/3
14 1/2
Got 1 28" northern
and my biggest surprise was a 14" crappie on a 3" shiner while jigging
my brother was 100-200 feet away and left his bobber pole dangling over the edge of the boat while he casted a jig, I'm not proud of him doing it this way but he got a 14" crap too about 2' below the surface in 4-5' of water.

Skinny and Hound,
I think I know where we need to target some slabs
