Ok, I confess, I have not been on or near the ice in a couple years in a portable for health reasons..

My last recollection was that no license need be purchased for softsided fishing shelters that are NOT left on the ice overnight (unattended) right?

Thanks, see you on the ice !

I am pretty sure you are correct, but you could call the DNR to get 100% answer on that.

You are correct.

Just an ID on the outside. Check the MNDNR site, it tells you what you need on the ID.

Here's the link to the MN DNR license page....

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/fishing/index.html?type=fishing

"Dark houses, fish houses, and portable shelters placed on the ice for shelter while fishing do not need a license unless the house will be left unattended overnight. See fishing regulations book for display requirements Fishing House or Dark House."-MN DNR 2011/12 Fishing Regulations Rulebook

Thanks you guys.

I found this to go with it if anyone else was interested:

2011: Minnnesota

Shelters (fish houses and dark houses)
The following regulations apply to all shelters used on all Minnesota
waters, unless otherwise noted elsewhere in this booklet.
• All shelters placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have either the
1) complete name and address, (2) driver’s license number, or (3) the nine-digit Minnesota DNR number on the license of the owner plainly
and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least
2 inches in height.
• A shelter may not be left unattended anytime between midnight and
one hour prior to sunrise unless the shelter is licensed.
