Today was a day dedicated to BIG crappies and boy did BemidjiFisher and myself find some quality schools! The afternoon started out pretty tough with not a fish hooked for a couple hours. After drilling LOTS of holes and constant checking we finally found a good school! All of our fish came in at 22-25 feet of water but were VERY high in the water column and were on the move! Most of our fish were caught anywhere from 12-15 feet down and were looking for dinner! All of our fish were caught on Lindy Bugs and Toads tipped with waxies. Here are a few that couldn’t resist a Fire Tiger bug…

One thing that helped me the most today was the movable zoom feature on the Humminbird Ice 55. Since most of our crappies were coming in so high having that zoom in the middle of the water column was key to keeping all our attention on the upper part of the column while having the ability to have it zoomed in on their level. Another key thing about today was the Lakemaster chip teamed with the 385. This made finding the spot super easy and the depths on the chip helped us find the area we wanted to target.

All in all an awesome day was had on the ice! There is nothing like seeing those big slabs coming up through the hole! Kept a couple for dinner…

Love catching those big slabs. Were they hitting it pretty good or was it a spring bobber kind of bite?
