Made it out to a few smaller lakes in the Carlton/Mahtowa area,,,found 5” on a couple 20’ deep or so. Bear lake in Barnum had @3” although it is a 30’ hole just off the landing. Think if’s you “gotta” go,watch out for the springs and inlets, wear the cleats. Good luck and be safe.

Thanks Joe!! I know Rice Lake is froze over but I wont go one it till next month just because that's when I can get there. I have heard that Rice had 4 inches two weeks ago. Always be carefull around the dam outlet. Never drive there regardless how deep the ice is. Muzzy hunting first. Island Lake is still open as of last weekend when I drove by. Shorelines were starting to form but it was windy. Stay safe and call Charlstroms Baits for good information . good luck.

Great news Joe!
What lakes did you check? I am heading up this weekend and am looking to get out.

Have you ever fished Hay lake? It is close to my in-laws house and have been itching to try it out.

Thanks.

I heard Hay froze out about 3-4 years ago. Is it coming back?

I did not know it froze out. Guess it would still be worth a shot to see what is left in there if anything.

The lake you’re talking about froze out closer to 7-8 yr ago and already came back, but like most small lakes that get pounded,,,with the cold forecast the next couple days it will be making ice. Spring on the left just out from the public landing. Doubt you’ll be alone, seems to be a popular “Thanksgiving” activity in that neighborhood. Good luck and be safe
