Been on the slow side for me also... I read and hear from a lot are just smashing em though. Ice it's starting to get good finally and can get out to different spots. I've fished mostly the north end breaks but went out of hunters last weekend fished fischers flat bottom edge one day top edge next and only caught 4 fish. Two absolute slobs so that was cool 27" and 28"

Been up for three day trips and had the best ice fishing I have ever experienced south of LOTW. Combination of jigging and tipups has been key on edges of the mud flats.

Been up past few weekends on the south end. 1 weekend was phenomenal, the next wasnt quite as good. Caught sizes all across the board. It's about fishin not catching.

Anyone have expectations of what it might be like with this awful cold front coming in? Our annual fishing trip has been on the coldest weekend of the year for the past 4 years, including this weekend (Winnie, Red, Mille Lacs). It's been absolutely terrible fishing, but we still have fun. I am expecting this weekend to be terrible yet again, just as it was out of Hunters last year when it was -20F.

Anyone selling hope? Cuz I am buying right now!

If you are soaking some shiners or small suckers near a break you should catch some fish. Bait is starting to get scarce so I would secure it before you get up there. Jigging may be touchy.

We have been running around in the portable from Lyback's to Red Door (East Side). Fishing has been steady.
Find some structure (Navionics App) and drill several holes. Jig and see if you get any takers before setting up shop.
Smaller jigs tipped with a minnow head has been working. Set line with plain red hook and 4" sucker (sinker 12" above hook).
Here is a trick I have doing with great success in each new hole I drill.
Clam makes a Flutter Spoon (cut off the hair from it), tip it with a minnow head and let it free fall. Stop when you get to about 6 feet off the bottom and jig it a few times. I use the Zoom option on my Vexilar to know when I am 6 feet from the bottom. If there are Walleye there, they will come up and pound it. I have had several fish come up 10 feet from the bottom and pound the jig.

Let me tell you guys ang gals, if you are not fishing Mille Lacs this winter you are missing out. 20 to 50 fish a weekend if you are not hole hopping if you are the skies the limit. If you don't know the lake just set up on the out side of a group. Ya I no you can only keep 1 fish well that one fish is a meal for 2 people with all you fixings. Good luck & keep your speeds down
