Lake Nokomis in MPLS. I grew up not far from the lake and spend a lot of my childhood summers at the lake for various reasons. But I have never ice fished it. My neighbor did some research and read it was managed / stocked with Walleyes.
Not my first choice but he did the research and was going to get there 2 hours before me, and with the add weather I wasn't sure how the ice was on Prior lake after the odd weather. So I planned on joining him.
He was setting up his hub as I was parking. So I knew he found something. CRAPPIES!
It was 2pm when I got there and I setup right away. It was over a 23' basin. Fish but not stacked. I tried a few go to jigs with red spikes. Nothing. But they were following and the ceiling was about 12 ft.
So I kept trying different jigs. Finally found the wanted dark to nature colors with a waxy. Pictured is the money jig. Not sure if was color or action with it being a flat spoon type jig. But I was in the 8 - 9.5" Crappie zone.
I was ready to stay late. But noticed most were packing up at sunset. at 6pm I was second to last off the lake. Had being 20 portables total on the lake. It really shut down at dark. I tried switching to glow and brite colors but the bite was over.
It was the first time using my new hub. I am loving it. Also tried a rechargeable fan / lite deal. That worked great. 3 levels of light and fan speed. Quiet fan and moved air.
