If you have to travel anywhere in the arrowhead this week, beware of pending blizzard conditions.


URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DULUTH MN
346 PM CDT TUE OCT 10 2006

...AN EARLY BLAST OF WINTER HEADED FOR THE NORTHLAND...

.THE WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE RAPIDLY ACROSS THE NORTHLAND
TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY...AS A COLD FRONT AND LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM DROPS RAPIDLY SOUTHWARD FROM CENTRAL CANADA. THIS LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DROP TOWARD EASTERN LAKE SUPERIOR
AND INTENSIFY WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. ABUNDANT MOISTURE WRAPPING
AROUND THE LOW IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE HEAVY SNOW IN THE MINNESOTA
ARROWHEAD...ESPECIALLY IN THE TIP OF THE ARROWHEAD ALONG THE
HIGHER TERRAIN...AND IN PARTS OF FAR NORTHERN WISCONSIN. THE
GUNFLINT TRAIL...AND HIGHER ELEVATION AREAS NEAR LUTSEN...GRAND
MARAIS...HOVLAND AND GRAND PORTAGE LOOK PARTICULARLY SUSCEPTIBLE
TO RECEIVING THE HEAVY SNOW...AS DOES AREAS ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE
OF LAKE SUPERIOR FROM BIRCH HILL EAST ACROSS NORTHERN IRON COUNTY.
OTHER AREAS ACROSS THE NORTHLAND WILL ALSO LIKELY SEE SOME SNOW
ACCUMULATION. IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO TRAVEL ACROSS NORTHEASTERN
MINNESOTA AND NORTHWESTERN WISCONSIN WEDNESDAY INTO FRIDAY...BE

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM WEDNESDAY TO 6 PM CDT
THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DULUTH HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM WEDNESDAY TO 6 PM CDT
THURSDAY FOR LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES.

SNOWFALL FROM 7 TO 11 INCHES IS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE MINNESOTA
ARROWHEAD WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING. MORE SNOW IS POSSIBLE
THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY...AND THE WARNING MAY HAVE TO BE EXTENDED.
THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY BE IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE
TIP OF THE ARROWHEAD. THE GUNFLINT TRAIL...ALONG WITH INTERIOR
LOCATIONS ALONG THE NORTH SHORE... LOOK TO BE PARTICULARLY AT RISK
FOR THE HEAVY SNOW. AREAS CLOSER TO THE LAKE WILL SEE LOWER
AMOUNTS. IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOW...GUSTY WEST TO NORTHWEST
WINDS UP TO 35 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED STARTING ON WEDNESDAY. THE
STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THIS
NEW SNOW...REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES IN OPEN
AREAS.

RAIN WILL DEVELOP TONIGHT...AND MIX WITH OR CHANGE OVER TO SNOW
LATE TONIGHT...GENERALLY AFTER 3 AM.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW IS EXPECTED.
STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS
OR IMPOSSIBLE.

Duluth got a dusting over the hill last night, it was windy and cool today witha few flurries.

Coming down ito town earlier the snow was going through the snowbelt area and up the shore looks dark.
Currently 32F and clearing up.

Very little up on the hill and nothing in souptown. Cold though. 26 degrees when I left work.
