I tried pout back when I was in college. Maybe I didn't cook it right or boiled it to long, but whatever I did, I wasn't impressed. Someday I may try again now that I know my way around a stove a bit better!

When we did fish them we would just take a heavy spoon like others have said and pound the bottom. Alot of the time you could feel when they were in the area, as you would bounce it on their head! The strike usually followed!
Good luck Pout hunters!

I got one last night at about 10:15 in 20 fow. I think I only marked one other fish. I was using a glowing white Chubby Darter. At one time, I was pounding the bottom and when I was trying to pull it up I felt some weight and just thought I had my line caught on the ice or something so I pulled harder, it let loose and then I saw a big red line on the MarCum...that was a little disappointing.

we were out a few nights ago, 6 of us including mastergayhunter. our buddy fishing with mstrhntr caught 3 in 45 min or so. then my gf caught one about at 1015. just the one in our house, they were all 3-4lb males, no females yet, so the spawn is right around the corner!

mastergayhunter huh? He sure hunted you guys down in a hurry.... ;)

I would think the 'pout are already circling, ready to start. I know hollywood knocked on a female the other night, and she looked ready to pop!

The best bite should be starting NOW! Usually it starts around Feb. 20th, so we may be running behind a tad.

Out of the 5 that we caught, 3 were confirmed males, there was no disputing the physical evidence left all over the garage floor!

Yep, this one was a female for sure. (If I can get the pic to work).

Well myself, hollywood_pete, and one of my guys made it out for a little 'poutin action on Sat. night. We marked a few, caught a few. 3 were pulled in with two misses on the board. We weren't out long, as it was very windy, but we fared pretty well for a short outing. Tim caught his biggest ever, 29" and tough!

Could've been one..... or the other..... ;)

Yes, we were. Were you out there? Did you see us circling as our GPS sent us for a loop jumping around?? I'm sure it was a hilarious siight if you were a spectator! We'd sit on a spot, then the GPS would jump, so we'd move, then the GPS would jump, so we'd move.... Luckily we were smart enough to wait out the GPS signal before drilling.
