The walleye were not a steady bite like it was last opener, but we did manage to catch a few smaller ones for a meal. I assume if the water was a few degrees warmer it would have been much steadier bite. I also caught a few nice Northern Pike that I released. All fish were caught with a chub and red hook under a float in 5-6 fow.

Here are a few pics from saturday.

Nice work Shawn!

Btw been out steelheadin lately? Are there any fish left in the rivers? I'm in Brainerd hopin I might get one last steelhead trip in this week.

Hmm lets see:
Sit in a boat all day and catch 1 rock bass or wade in a river all day and catch 1 metalhead?

I'll take the screamin drag any day!

There should be fish moving into the rivers I would imagine, Water is still cold. Mid May can be good stealheading, if you can try to hit some of the rivers north of Duluth go for it.

I am going back to work tommorow. I have to work in Duluth at the Lakewood water treatment plant on the north shore so I plan on fishing after work somewhere.

Good luck if you get out!

I was on Island also, fish were hard to find, ended up get 2 eyes, 3 perch, 1 northern.
My nephew and his buddies got the bigger fish of the day, 18" and 21" eye.
I heard from a friend that fished Whiteface and it sounded like a similar outing there too, just a bit too early for them to be turned on.

what water temp did you guys have? I managed to get 36 walleyes in just over five hours. I thought it was a pretty good day. The surface water where i was was 49 in the morning and warmed up to 51 around 11 oclock.

I didn't have a thermometer with me on my little boat so I have no idea on water temp.

I thought it was a good day too! No idea of the water temp but four of us caught and released 60 Walleyes between 14" to 22". Also a 34" northern and a Muskie we managed to shake off by the boat. It helped to get away from the crowds where they get mostly small ones and to move around a bit.
