Wondering how the lakes in other parts of the metro are coming along... Little Elk Lake and Fremont lakes were both completely froze over this morning(Sherburne) Hopefully we can keep this cold weather and get some safe ice before our first accumulating snow.. Wont be long now....

Smaller, shallower lakes in my area locked up three days ago (Amelia, Otter etc.)

The wind has been the only thing keeping the larger, deeper lakes open. If it dies down and we get a quiet night or three, they should be skimming over.

I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Regards

Any word on Tonka or lake Independence? I was thinking about getting out on Sunday to try and pull out some snakes.

Just don't want to drive all the way out there and find that the water is too hard to get my boat in...

Going to be cold in the interrim.

There's been some crusting ice on the edges of shore in Jennings Bay and Halstead's Bay of Tonka. It's been so windy that there's been plenty of chop and white caps the past few days keeping the big bays open.

Battle Creek (Mud) along 94 in Woodbury has been shore to shore for a few days now. If it stays cold, could be walkable in a week. Lots of little pike and panfish in there.

Keller lake has been locked up for the past two days. But the channel still has open water. I'll have to check on my other little haunts north of Stillwater to see how they are doing.

I swung by a couple lakes this morning before work:

Otter: Iced over completely, has been for a few days
Amelia: Same
Peltier: Iced over last night except for the usual spots out from the point in front of the launch and the deepest hole
Centerville: Had skim last night, but the wind blew a good chunk open this morning. Lots of pancake piled up on the east shore, bays are frozen. If it calms down tonight this one might go tomorrow...

Will try to check Bald Eagle tonight on my way home

Regards
