Can anyone tell me about ice fishing for salmon in the bay / pier area of Two Harbors. I have heard that this is an option some years, but I can not find out any information and I am not from the Duluth/ Two Harbors area. My husband and I would like to try it sometime- we love the Two harbors/ Duluth area and like ice fishing .

Salmon, mostly coho salmon, tend to cruise the harbor area of TH during the winter months. Once the shipping season is over in mid Feb, the ice has a good chance to develop and produces an excellent opportunity for ice anglers. As of yesterday, the harbor was completely open. Check back for ice reports!

I tried it last year, it was cool to be able to sight fish in 40 fow. Didn't catch anything but I think we missed the bite. Good luck if you go!

The fishing was very good for us last year. We got a lot of salmon last year. The harbor is completely frozen out to the break wall. I am going down there tomorrow after work to see how thick the ice is. We have had some pretty cold nights so its making ice. I did hear that the shipping season is over but it could be wrong. I'll let you know how the ice looks tomorrow.

Just got in from fishing the harbor. We ended up with 5 coho's. There was about 13 other houses out there. The ice is 8 inches of good ice. I talked to a few guys and they didnt have a bite. The fish were comming thew 5-10 feet off the bottom. We were fishing in 37 fow. Now were are goning to have a huge fish fry with the splake and coho's should be tasty.

I'm going to be up in Duluth the last weekend of January and may have time to get out there. What type of gear are you using. I fished out of Two Harbors in August when I stayed at the campground. Are you right out in the harbor between the wall and the loading piers?

Are there any restrictions on the fish- size, species etc.?
