Where would be a good place to walk around and try to find some grouse on some public land within 30 minutes of Duluth in MN? Any suggestions?

I too have knocked down a few bird in the Canosia WMA. I went there early season because it's off limits to ATV's. Haven't been back in a few weeks because the problem around Duluth here is you go 30 minutes in any direction but east and you'll find more public hunting land than you'll know what to do with. I have a new pup I've been training this year. He's been doing great so far I've shot a lot of Grouse and woodcock over him. My suggestion would to be either try the WMA's or grab a map and head out of town on one of the state hwys within 30 minutes you should come across plenty of public land and logging areas. Good Luck! Sorry can't post without adding a picture of my dog Winston.

Thanks those are nice looking pups too. That's the neat thing about setters they all look so different from one another. Each one is unique. Hard to find a better breed for grouse.

Hello Mark great looking dog and nice birds also. I will soon be your neighbor as we are moving in 2 weeks to 10 miles up the shore. Maybe if I get settled after Turkey day we could team up to chase a grouse or two. When we were looking over the weekend for a place to rent we had a grouse walking on the driveway of the place we found to rent. Had my heart pumping.
