September report... |

Sorry for the lack of updates, but myself and my guides all have hunting on the brain! I had clients from PA out yesterday for a scheduled full-day trip. The rain didn't allow for a full 8 hours, but the 6.5 we spent on the water was quite good. We fished from 8:30 until 3 and caught fish on jigs and fatheads in 9-17' of water on steep breaks, as well as 7-10' of water on cranks. It wasn't lightning fast, but the happy couple managed some very nice walleyes ranging from 13-21". Water temps. were 68 degrees.

Since grouse season is open, I figured I had better add to this report... I had the shorthairs out for a couple of hours this morning and we had 4 solid points, 5 flushes, and one bird down. There are a lot of leaves up, and things are just starting to turn, so it'll be awhile before shooting conditions improve.

Another update... I had two great gentlemen out this afternoon for a half-day trip. They are booked through the weekend and had intended on chasing slabs the entire time. After our half-day today, they're now stuck chasing walleyes the rest of the weekend. They managed limits of crappies in the 11-14.25" range and threw back 5 smaller ones. They also managed 2 incidental walleyes, 14" and 19". Water temps are plummeting, but the fall fishing is heating up!

Good report Matt. Those grouse can be tuff to hit most of the time! Nothing finer than hunting and fishing in the fall.
