The early frost you had seems to have hurt you Woodcock hunting this year at least the grouse don't leave.
I brought a buddy along and he didnt seem to intreseted in getting his last bird and my pup worked good so I let him off the hook, if we shot a little better that day we could have been done earlier.

They were real thick up here around Duluth a week ago but it was the smaller males which I've been told are the last ones to come down. Today I got out and we got 5 grouse over the dogs but we did see two woodcock they must be some of the last ones coming down. One was migrator for sure. It was so tired it flew right over top of us so slow we could have hit it with a tennis racket. The dogs didn't point it though so we let it go. I don't normally shoot one unless it's pointed.
