absolutely nuts, apparently the writer of this article or the natives he talked too forgot to mention that the leech lake tribe gets paid big bucks from the state for the settlement of fishing rights, millions, I think this was in the 80's sometime? A lump payment then so much every 5 years

Does that mean the 2nd Amendment is no longer applicable? I mean, it's older than the treaties.

I seriously doubt the intent of the treaties was for the bands to be stocking the shelves at Cub Foods with walleye fillets. Growing up in Alaska and working in the bush communities gave me a unique insight into "subsistence fishing" and the general nature of man; regardless of race or creed.

This has gone too far. Time for state run casinos. If they want to play this game, we can make them dirt poor again and any fish netting will be truly for "subsistence".

"The letter that's going to be going out here is -- I want to say this politely. We're not asking for their permission," said Green. "We're going to re-exert our rights, but ... being good neighbors, we want the governor to talk with us and be aware of what we're doing, why we're doing it, and if he can assist us."

Re-exert their rights??? I think you kind of 'give up' those rights when you don't use them for 185 years...Treaty or no treaty...

We will need to watch this....it might be a good thing! It might get this native fishing/netting rights issue back it the courts. Who knows, lets hope!

I keep telling you folks..wait till they want to drive on the other side of the road. They some how get their way

This has always been a bigger issue than just the fishing on Mille Lacs Lake
