LakeStateFishing assume no responsibility in the sale of firearms and/or ammunition. It is up to the buyer and seller to verify that all transactions are done in accordance with local laws and regulations.

Oftentimes people are under the mistaken assumption that sporting firearms (Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol) are registered in the state of Minnesota. This is purely myth. Furthermore there is no registration of sporting firearms by the ATF/Federal Government. The ONLY guns "registered" by the Federal Government are weapons that are National Firearms Act (NFA) items such as full auto, Short Barreled Rifles, Destructive Devices, and AOW's. While some state do have weapons registration, MN does not.

The 4473 that you fill out when you purchase from a dealer(FFL) is ONLY an authorization to perform a background check. The hard copy is kept on file with the FFL until the FFL dissolves, at which time they are given to ATF and they destroy them.

Minn. Stat. § 624.7141
It is a gross misdemeanor for any person, including a private
party, to intentionally transfer a pistol or assault weapon to
another knowing that the transferee has been found ineligible
by a law enforcement agency to possess the weapon or
knowing that the transferee is disqualified from possessing
the weapon. The violation becomes a felony if the transferee
possesses or uses the weapon in furtherance of a violent
felony within one year after the transfer. The penalty does
not apply if the transferee subsequently becomes eligible to
possess the weapon before using or possessing it in the
commission of a crime.

LSF recommends that you take the following precautions when buying or selling any firearm, whether via this site or not.

Bill of Sale: Sellers name, buyers name, model, caliber and serial# of the firearm.

Drivers License: Ask to see and copy# on Bill of Sale

Permit to Purchase, or Permit to Carry: A PTP or PTC ensures that the buyer has gone through a background check.

A seller may also decide that they prefer to do a sale through an FFL. There are many FFL’s available around the state. Expect to pay a $10-50 transfer fee. There is no legal requirement to do a transaction through and FFL.
