Well the weather was fantastic and so was my fishing partner. Our youngest son Andy came up for the weekend and we celebrated his birthday Saturday. So today before he took off back to Fargo for one last week before he moves west to L.A I got to spend 4 great hours in the boat relaxing and fishing with him. He lost a nice looking King about 20 yards from the boat after a 1 1/2 drought. Then about another hour later we had a miss. Just before we quit at 11:30 he finally hooked in to a small Coho. Not big but will make a nice meal for him when he gets home about now. We were running 3 lines with different colored spoons and one flasher and tinsel fly. All three hits were on the purple dotted spoon at about 35'. I think we would have done better but we got crowded by this one charter boat. We were thinking he thought he owned the water. It was a different looking charter boat with one large downrigger as you can see in the pictures I took of him as he was crowding us.

I think I've seen that charter out there before too. Seems to me they troll way too fast. I prefer to stay out of their way even if it means missing a fish or two. I have given different flasher and fly combos a try, but never have had any luck with them. I noticed a couple different boats who braved the water this Saturday or at least tried too, had flashers and flies rigged up. I run mostly spoons and stick baits on the boards when the fish are up high. Hoping to get out again this weekend weather permitting.

What's the king salmon fishing in Superior compared to L. Michigan?

As far as Kings go ( I hope I don't get blasted for this) Superior is way done the list from Michigan for size and quantity. There has been some local reports of fair amount of them but nothing compared with Michigan. Laker reports have been good for numbers and better size again this year. Coho's are smaller. But they all taste good on the grill or smoked!

Like Noel said, Kings on L.S. are very hard to come by, it's considered a lucky gift from the fish gods, imo.

Isn't that more dependent on what part of LS you are fishing? I have been on charters over towards the Apostle Islands and got into them (this was 10+ years ago though)

Sorry I couldn't make it Noel. Celebrated Mia's 8th b-day. I got to host 15 screaming 7-8 year old girls instead. My ears are still ringing!.
