I should also say that I actually started making my own cranks, more or less as something to do while I was waiting for work to start again for the year. It's fun, but the time it takes to make one doesn't usually pay when you consider you can buy them for $3-$5. But I already had the tools, and if I do say, they turned pretty nice and I really like to be able to customize the action. If you have a utility knife or a dremel/rotary tool and some free time, you could save a few bucks and make your own.

Cant go wrong with flicker shads for under 4 bucks. Not really sure if I like the hooks on them yet though, have had some break and do not seem very durable to a pliers. There bigger one is real similar to a #7 shad rap.

PK Ridgelines are another great lure. They look a little goofy but the action is awesome! If you haven't used them I'd give them a try.
