Haven't been back since the trout opener. I'm pretty sure it's thicker now and more vehicle traffic. Let us know how u do out there Reinhard. I'll probably be back towards the end of this month.

Not sure of the thickness but I seen a minivan quite a ways south of the red barn and quite a few other tracks out there yesterday when I drove by. Good luck on Monday, maybe I'll swing over there on my way back from the cabin and see how you do it RH.

Hey nice meeting you out there today!! We started fishing around 9:30 and left at 3 PM. We seen a few brown trout today where we were, but they did not want anything we put out there. Crappie minnows, waxies, jigging, and tip ups. seen one nice pike come through as well. Tried different depth but the 6 foot range is where we seen the trout. We had 14 inches of ice near shore. Do not know how thick it is out in deeper water. Did see a couple of trucks across the lake and one in the middle of the smelt hole. Good access by the boat landing right now. I'm sure the smelt action will pick up soon. good luck.

Well it won't be long and fishing for trout will be open on Grindstone again and I'm excited to go there. As of a week ago Monday the lake was still wide open. I just want to stress a very important thing about ice conditions about this lake.

There are other lakes around Grindstone that will have a lot more ice earlier because they are not as deep as Grindstone. Grindstone is one of the last lakes to freeze because it is so deep. The west side usually freezes first. Do not drive on this lake until it is safe. The center freezes last. Just because it can have 10 inches of solid ice near shore does not mean that is the case further out. Always use extra caution on this lake. I'll be going there a few times this year and am ready to catch some rainbows, browns, lakers, and smelt. good luck.
