I'm new to this site but have been reading past posts about the rum river because it is close to home and I am interested in fishing it. Haven't had an update for a while so do you guys have any water level info or fishing reports? Also do I need to be worried about any shallow/rocky areas in my 14ft boat in the stretch from Anoka to St. Francis? Thanks

With the water levels now getting up past Ramsey without wading will be tough. You will be fine from anoka to the island without any issues. After that it gets rocky and tough to do in low water. St.Francis through oak grove is out of the question unless you just plan on floating it and don't mind leaving some aluminum behind.

Got out yesterday a few miles up river from Cambridge. I didn't wander too far from where I launched but
had no trouble navigating but didn't go too far. Shallowest water was 1.5 ft and as much as 4' down the middle of the river. Fishing was great. Caught 4 nice walleyes, some nice smallies and of course a few fighting RedHorse! Great day to be on the water.

That one was a little bigger than the ones we caught. The bass sure put up a fight too!

Got out again on Sunday. The river was up quite a bit so we did some trolling with Raps and jigging with minnows. Fished holes too. I didn't catch a thing (not altogether unusual) but my friend got one nice eater walleye and two Northerns. Another fellow suggested that maybe they had headed downstream, closer to Anoka. He thinks they do this when winter is coming. Anyone else out and have any ideas on this migration?

Caught plenty of suckers this past summer. They are fun to catch and tempted to keep and smoke but have never done it. Maybe next year. (I usually fish north of Cambridge).
