I went out a few times late last week on Wayzata where I caught a few small walleyes and then tried Excelsior both days this weekend and got 2 more but they were also on the small side. All the fish were caught on tip ups. Has anyone else had any better luck out there on Tonka with the wallys?

Mike

nope, been skunked on Wayzata the last two times. Might try again this weekend. not sure if I'll do the weedline or find some deep structure, hard to say this time of year on Tonka.

Went out yesterday afternoon.Got stuck three times on the way to the spot Ive been hitting, rough travel and the shovep was needed a few times but I made it.The perch were unreal couldnt fish with a deadstick as It was constantly getting a perch on.About 4:00 the perch scattered so I knew the walleyes were close, caught 4 little ones maybe 12 inchers.Man there should be alot of nice fish in a year or so.Didnt stay to much longer as I wanted to make sure I got off the lake without shoveling in the pitch black,I made it off my oringinal tracks no problem and should have stayed out since I left with fish still on the graph,oh well. Now its gonna get butt cold again so who knows when I will go out again.

I've been wondering myself. I caught a few real nice ones earlier this winter. But they have vanished. Have they gone deep? I'm lost this year. Did really well last year, 1 good keeper every time out. Is it an off year? I do know that they stocked the west side of the lake with almost 3000 yearlings at the end of October. I've seen quite a few of those. Hopefully next year should have a nice crop.

Walleye's have been tough as well. We decided last Saturday to target crappies and had good success. I was trying to trigger what I thought was a crappie off the bottom when "WHAM"! 20" walleye smacked my waxworm. Couldn't believe it but it was a hoot. I missed another big hit on my waxie about 20min after that, hook was just too small I guess. I was surprised that I even landed the first one.

(trying to get the picture to paste but it wont)

So what you're saying is to trick the walleyes, by crappie fishing! Nice fish!
