Had a big musky come into my hole while spearing. Was very cool to see so I thought I would share some pictures I snapped.

Maybe it's photo quality, and my inexpierence with spearing, but I find it hard to tell that being a musky vs. northern. Is it a lot easier to do when in the spear house? Have always been interested in giving it a try, but would not want to do that is I may hit a musky.

Thought you couldn't spear any lake that had Musky.

its actually very easy to tell the difference pike have light spots on dark background and musky have dark spots on light background anyone that spears and "accidentally" speared a musky it wasn't a accident

Yeah the pictures don't show the pattern at all. You can easily tell the pattern difference in real time.

Any lake the DNR clasifies as a designated "Musky" lake you cannot spear northern, example Mille Lacs. Shakopee Lake has muskies in it and you can spear it.

There are some Muskie lakes open and closed to spearing, Sugar lake in Wright co for example just re-opened to spearing this year along with some other Muskie managed waters

You have to check the regs. Cass and big winni are full of muskies and both can be speared. You have to know the diff between the two.

Also - Leech is a great spearing lake - and a great musky fishery at the same time.

Like mentioned earlier - if you 'accidently' spear a musky, I would really, really question the validity of the 'error'.......
