Anyone up it that area know if the spring runs have started yet? I'm thinking of heading up this weekend, and want to know if they are running yet, so I know whether to bring my gear. Not looking for secret spots, just want to know if they're running yet.

The storm with the strong Northeast winds packed the ice into the west end of the lake and piled it up tight on the shore and blocking the mouths of the rivers. the cold has slowed the water flow but the next few days may melt the new snow. But then again there is a winter weather advisory for the arrowhead tonight into tomorrow for anywhere from 1" to 6". Will it ever quit??? :-O

I just took these pictures at the French River. When I said the ice blew in I wasn't kidding.

Looks like the rods might stay home unless something major changes! Thanks for the info!

My brother who lives in Duluth just called me to let me know of the conditions on the North Shore. He checked all the streams up to Silver Creek. They are all open except the Talmadge which still has some ice. Like Papa's Ship's pictures showed, this is still the case on the mouth's of the rivers. Ice packs blocking the mouths of the rivers still.

He seen guy's out fishing on the rivers, not a mad rush but a few. He fished some of the streams with no takers. All the anglers he saw or talked to had no fish. The water is still dirty and ice cold. I'm sure there are some fish in the rivers but In my opinion, I think next week will be a better week to go. Mornings would be better with less run off from the snow, bringing lower water levels. Still a lot of snow in the woods next to the rivers so be carefull. Some ice near shore in spots as well so take care in those spots as well. My brother will be going often now, and next week I may go up and try my luck. good luck.

Fishing is picking up on the lower north shore for loopers. My brother picked up a few loopers over the weekend in the streams. There was also a good run by the French River were guy's had some luck off shore there. Rivers are still muddy with the Lester a little more clear than the others. Cloudy sky's seems to pick up the bite as well. Time for me to head up. good luck.

Lester has really cleared up and lots of fish around. Between two of us we hooked around 25 and landed a dozen or so. The next couple of days should be awesome.
