Hi guys. I am and always will love the Rum. I grew up and still live live and fish it religiously.(about 25 years) But sad news for other fans of this river. Today my little bro came up from fishing and sad there was water rushing over the bank between water treatment facility and the state hospital and it reeked like sewer! I instantly called sheriffs dept who contacted the water facility. I cruised up in my boat to see what it really was. NOT GOOD! Called sheriff back and told him it was MAJOR! Water was over flowing from sewer and so much that it created a ravine 20+ft deep 25ft wide 200ft long, and enough sand from the washout to fill half a football field. Deep enough full grown trees were falling into the crater! The water treatment guy finally came and it was indeed sewer and couldn't believe no one said anything sooner, neither could I. My dumb a** bro INLAW ( who never liked fishing, but now is an addict, and lives on the rum) said he noticed it Saturday!! And said nothing! Raw sewage has been rushing into the this beautiful river for 3 days that I know of. Btw the Cambridge Water Treatment Facility is also under construction and expanding. Are they over capacity or they not able to process what waste water they currently are receiving? So angry, so sad. I contacted news, and the CPA. Which prolly hear more about and from tomorrow. I took plenty of photos and vid of it all. I can't believe NO one knew though. I mean there is an orange cone on top of the man hole cover! Feel free to post comments guys share frustration, etc.

Thanks for that report and welcome to LSF. Certainly looks like a very bad situation from your pictures. I tried to look for more information on the web but could not find any other information on this. Hopefully this gets resolved fast. good luck.

It's hard to believe that with all the technology surrounding a treatment plant that there was no trigger or warning that the amount of sewage flowing to the plant was light by about 20,000 gallons.

I don't know much about the capacity of these plants so that much missing sewage may easily be overlooked, but it sure is significant when it dumps into the river.

I feel for those frequenting this body of water.
