Yeah Yeah I know it's still way early, but next weekend it's looking better!! What temps do you all look for during the day and night before you venture out?? I'm going to hit it hard this year. They are just way to fun to hunt, and even better to eat A couple beauties from last year.

So.

Way.

Early.

Daytime highs in the 60's, lows in the mid-upper 40's or low 50's.

I don't look for temps... just wait for the popple leaves to be the size of a mouse ear and they will be out

I am pretty sure you should be looking for high's around 80's and lows in 60/70's.....So I would wait til june

joking aside we are getting close....and yes next week is looking up, remember something about ground temp being the ultimate factor for the to pop?

Way, way, way, way too early (at least in southern Minnesota). To start thinking about Morels right now would just be torment.

Lilacs blooming is what I have always used and it has not failed me yet. As of right now they are barely budding.

Ground temp needs to around 50deg. Once you see the 60's being the norm, you are close. Looking at national reports, the leading edge is still in the southern half of Iowa.

Pretty consistently for me it's right around 4/25 every year before they get going. You may find a couple earlier in south facing slopes, but these are outliers.
