Just wondering on how it's looking for 2016 smelting this spring? I know it's early but with this weird spring we're having who knows:)

I was hoping to get back up there this year for it again too. Hoping I didn't miss it.

They are just starting in Ashland..very very few in Duluth... Most likely the next couple days Ashland is gonna get good and then Duluth should be starting at least on a typical year... which this year is not

Have never been up for the smelt run. I thought you just put on some waders and went out with a small handheld dip net at night and drank beer and peppermint schnaaps. It sounds like you people are now using long seine nets. Did the choice of beverage change to wine and Manhattens too?

The creeks and dip netting takes a while to put good numbers in the cooler..seines are used on the beaches/sandy areas when they are running good u can pull the net once and fill a cooler or two and that gives ya time to drink the beer and b.s...I know I'll be up Wednesday and Thursday I think any way... Depending on what I hear will depend on wether I go to Ashland or Duluth...last couple nights there was some ok numbers coming out of Ashland... Duluth sounds like it'll b a few days yet
