Anyone fired up yet? just a couple weeks till tee time, lots of local geese this year, should be a great opener, small grain crops are down in most areas plus the young geese must have a taste for green, seeing plenty in the fresh cut alfalfa.

Starting to get a little excited. We hunt water in the longville area and generally get a few birds opening weekend but don't hunt too hard. In mid September we always get a big push of new birds around there so that's always fun. Good luck out there!

Sleepless night last night, went out@ daybreak this morning before work (couldn't sleep)birds were piling into this cut grain field still, then over to another field with a green light,it to had 2-300 birds feeding on winter wheat, had a truck come by as I was posting it and ask about hunting, little late to line things up,game day is tomorrow.

I suspect no sleep tonight either.might as well just camp out, sunrise can't come soon enough.

I used to early hunt every year but eventually the lands that we hunted got sold, now I have thought about getting back into it and nobody seems to know what happened to my decoys...... I am talking 10 dozen super mag field shells and a pile of wind socks, what great friends I used to have!!!

Well, saturday morning I got a late start as my huntin buddy was a no show,so I was setting up a handful of dekes@ 1st light in a oats field,40 acre plot, the land has a small lake and two ponds which I don't hunt so the birds have a safe haven for the season,I could here geese getting restless on the water as the sun rose,by the time I hid my truck and loaded my gun I had a pair swing by my spread (12 magnum shells) couple hail calls and back they came, from that point on it was a circus,my young retriever bolted on the 1st shot pulling his screw stake out of the ground and then his shock collar fell off somewhere out in the stubble.

Then wave after wave of geese were dumping in as I tried to hold my pup with one hand and call with the other, then the time came to grab my gun,and release Duce,by the time I stood up and shoulderd the shotgun, ole Duce was under the group with there landing gear down,my younger years I would've been pissed, but this day I only laughed it was quit the scene.

Had my 5birds in 10minutes,pulled the truck out in the field to pickup my dekes and geese were still coming in,they just wanted in to that field.

Best early season hunt in my lifetime.

PS~ Later in the morning I went back with my 4wheeler to search for the lost articles, geese were still feeding in the field as I drove around and they never left after I found both articles, they just watched less than 100tds away.
